“One of my favourite programs in Budapest is the Red Bull Air Race. On the day of the event a mass of people gather together in the city centre near to the quayside and it is an engaging experience to see the bunts flying a few meters above the town and the Danube. It is a great idea to sit on the stairs of the Danube bank the day before and enjoy the practice of the racers even the full forenoon.”
Viola from Budapest
“The night running race organised in the city is a real experience. The weather is still nice, the temperature is ideal and the programs are varied. I always jitter the race all the way until the participants sweat, push on and get tired. Meanwhile I enjoy the sight of the floodlit route, I participate the start-finish entries with loud cheering and have a great fun on the street music festival, which is part of the race.”

Tip: run races in Budapest in the full summer and in autumn: River Danube Running Gala on 30 of May, Olympic Marathon Relay on 7 of June, International Half Marathon on 6 of September, Night Running on 12 of September, International Marathon on 4 of October, and further events here.
“We are getting prepared in the full summer for the Buda Castle Wine Festival, where we taste the new Hungarian wines year after year with our wine fancier friends. The spirit is guaranteed! It’s worthy to try those wines here which are not available in the shops. Each wine regions have to be discovered. And than with the well based mood we may go downhill to the town, to one of the stormy party.”
Emese from Budapest
Tip: further wine festivals in Budapest: Wine village in Óbuda (5-7 June), Pannon Wine Parliament (12-14 June), Wine village (19-23 August), Wine Festival (9-13 September).
“The Museums summering is a huge turnout, it is a great scream to look around in the garden of the National Museum in May and to get to know the museums of Budapest from different sides a little.”
Ágnes from Budapest
I was „accidentally” on a horse race 3 years ago, originally I was looking around on a deluxe car exhibition on the Hungexpo, from where I walked over to the horse race, it was a very good experience.
Tip: Kincsem Crush Park where each week on Saturdays trotting race and on Sundays gallop races are organised.
“In regard to the experiences and stories, the Island is squarely inevitable in Budapest. I was there several times, beside the concerts, drinking, laughing, etc for me personally the bungee jumping was the most recallable experience.”
Árpi from Budapest
I went to watch the firework on the 20 of August from a certain location for years now. In regard to the build up of the castle several cliffs and “ledged” are to be found from the road leading to the Castle. I propose this solution for the braver ones, because it’s not danger free to get to these cliffs from the walkway, but the view is exceptional so it worth the trouble. A costless program, from costless location, but fully exclusive, only the ones on helicopters or on boats have a better view. To find the rock and to get on it is a real adventure.
"The firework is the most next to my heart experience with everything it has, whit the things it enlightens and the way it reflects on the water of the Danube"
Jucus from Budapest
"There are a lot of festivals in Budapest in the whole year which I likely to visit. For me the minimum to see are the Broadway Festival, the Spring Festival, the outdoor theatre presentations on Margaret Island and the Wine Festival in Buda Castle."
“I took the 130-year-old funicular railway up to the spectacular Royal Palace, where the Budapest Wine Festival was taking place. The organisers had laid on a jazz band, fading sunlight glinted off the palace windows and the view over the city was breathtaking. It was a great place to try Hungary’s well-known wine, Tokaji.”
Joel Cooper, The Sun, UK
“Not for the faint-hearted: Sziget Festival is almost a full week of hard partying on an island on the Danube.”
Gareth Scurlock, The Times, UK
“It's a city where you won't be short of something to fill your glass as I discovered when I visited this year's International Wine Festival when the magnificent BudaCastle Palace was the backdrop to an astonishing display of the science of viniculture.”
Martin Hannan, The Scotsman, UK
