You can't get enough of it

"A part of the summer program that should never be missed is visiting the Zoo and the Fun Fair. Don’t miss to take a towel with you to both places, because you may never know when will a camel spit on you, or when will you rush into the surf with the switchback railway."

The biggest adventure in the summer
Sziget Festival

The biggest adventure in the summer

"What else could I mention in this topic than the Sziget Festival, which is the biggest and most successful event of the summer in Budapest. Not just because the party and the music, but because this program gives a fantastic experience of new learning, new friends and fair enough gain of language knowledge."

'Let the sunshine in'

"One of the best things in the Budapest summer is that a lot of visitors come to us and a mass of young people are all over the town in the summer nights. The young and older people are crawling in front of the „Gödör” Club for instance. The whole thing is like a big friend club, I personally love to be there on the summer nights."

A lido - busy and peaceful
Palatinus

A lido - busy and peaceful

"The Palatinus Lido became lot better in the past 30-35 years. The trees have grown, it is a place where you may find more nature than before. Surf bath, ping-pong tables, slippery football ground, body building tent. Corncobs, ice cream, beer without limit, wave pool, thermal. If you like it is busy, if you like it is peaceful. Hey-ho how I would enjoy the lido.. "

Open-air concerts

Open-air concerts

"I very much like the outdoor rock music festivals of the summer organised in the Petőfi Hall. The beer is cheap, the air is fresh and the spirit is homely. Both young and older people and even the children feel very well themselves there. It happened that we played cards together on the stairs after the concert."

Have a freshly draft beer

"The beer tent should never be missed in the City Parkl. After a hot summer night walk, or a bathing in the Széchenyi Bath a freshly draft beer under the umbrella is just fantastic."

Réka from Budapest

Tip: if you are interested in concerts, visit the nearby TERASZ09 event in the City Park, further information here.

Always cool and breezy
Római part (Roman Coast)

Always cool and breezy

"As good weather is approaching I sit on the bike, collect the friends, and cycle together to the “Római” at weekday nights, well if everyone is free… fish or scone, pancake or beer, doesn’t matter, but our table should look down to the Danube. When the concrete burns in town, it is always chilly up here and the breeze is nice. Let’s not leave the bike lamps at home!"

Just listening to the rip

"Sometimes I just cycle out alone to the Kopaszi rampart, I sit somewhere on the bank and listen to the rip, which is sometimes distracted by a kayak or a nearby dog;) on my way back I eat a scone or a pancake at my favourite place  – bicycle there once, I am sure you will find it too!"

Summer nights in Budapest
Klári from Budapest

Summer nights in Budapest

"The best things in the Budapest summers are the big evening walks on the circuit, bicycling on the Bem quay and of course a nice wine and soda on the Margaret Island afterwards."

Just walking around
Orsi from Budapest

Just walking around

"A walk around the Hotel Intercontinental on the quay, I think it is the place where the Danube is the nicest, and around the Parliament. I like the gardens of the coffees all around in the city centre. Just to sit about on a bench at the Szabadság square or in the City Park right at Heroes' square."

Tip: After visiting the great statues of Heroes' square, go for a nice walk and have a cool drink in the City Park.

Meet you in the city centre
Group of friends

Meet you in the city centre

"It is getting popular that friends gather together in the city centre in the evenings. I gladly go to the Liszt Ferenc square, to the Erzsébet square, to the Szabadság square and to the bank of the Danube in the summers. It feels good to sit on the grass, to chat and be together with nice people."

Unusual sightseeing

"What a sight to be on a ship going under the bridges of the Danube in the floodlights of the night. It is an everlasting experience to travel on a boat on a nice summer evening and go under the Chain Bridge."

Walking after the sun goes down

Walking after the sun goes down

"I like to take walks in the town, on the Danube esplanade, in the Buda Castle and on the Margaret Island. It is good that you can be out there late night, the night floodlights are nice on the buildings."

Watching summer sunset
Corvintető

Watching summer sunset

"There is no more exciting place for looking at the summer sundown than the top. To get up there is an adventure itself. After the sight of the staircase full of bicycles shock comes your way, mysterious blazes and walls, milling under the stars and lemonade from scratched plastic glasses. The best music of the town is here, it is the best place for Saturday nights. The slogan on the  Facebook is most effective: Corvintető, life is underground."

Emese from Budapest

Tip: further underground places in the town: Dürer garden, Jelen, Cöxpont Ambient Café, Jelen, Sirály, Sark garden, Kertem…

The cool and relaxing spots of Margaret Island

“Margaret Island: Locals sprawl around during high summer, but there’s enough room for anyone to find a cool spot and relax under a tree.”

Open-air beer gardens everywhere

“In the summer, everyone seems to practically live outdoors. Cafés on virtually every major square are open until the wee hours, and open-air pubs and beer gardens seem to pop up everywhere.”

Budapest, Fodor’s, Douglas Stallings, 2005

The best refreshing drink
Andrea and Mila from Slovakia

The best refreshing drink

"The best solution on a hot summer day is to head to the pools of Margaret Island. And if you are there, drink a wine and soda mix (fröccs) in one of the outdoor bars."
